General DescriptionThe LM4884 features differential stereo inputs, BTL (bridge-
tied load) outputs, and four externally selectable fixed gains.
The LM4884 also features proprietary internal circuitry that
suppressesthe couplingofRF signals into the chip. Thisis
important because certain typesof RF signals (suchas
GSM) can couple into audio amplifiersin sucha way that
partof the signalis heard through the speaker. The RF
suppression circuitryinthe LM4884 makesit well-suitedfor
notebook and portable applicationsin which strongRF sig-
nals generatedbyan antenna fromaPC wireless cardora
cellular phone may couple audibly into the amplifier.
Operatingona single5V supply,the LM4884 delivers 1.2W,
1.9W,or 2.1W (typ)of output powertoan 8Ω,4Ω,or3Ω BTL
load (Note1), respectively, with less than 1% THD+N. The
LM4884’s gainis selected using two digital inputs. The nomi-
nal gain values are 6dB, 10dB, 15.6dB, and 21.6dB.
Other featuresofthe LM4884 are thatit delivers high-quality
output power froma surface-mount package, requires few
external components, hasan active-low micropower shut-
down mode input, and has thermal shutdown protection.
