General DescriptionThe LM1971isa digitally controlled single channel audio
attenuator fabricatedona CMOS process. Attenuationis
variablein1dB steps from0dBto −62 dB.A mute function
disconnectsthe input fromthe output, providing over 100dB attenuation.
The performanceof the deviceis exhibitedbyits abilityto
change attenuation levels without audible clicksor pops.In
addition,the LM1971 featuresa low Total Harmonic Distor-
tion (THD)of 0.0008%, anda Dynamic Rangeof 115 dB,
makingit suitablefor digital audio needs. The LM1971is
availablein both 8-pin plastic DIPor SO packages.
The LM1971is controlledbya TTL/CMOS compatible 3-wire
serial digital interface. The active low LOAD line enablesthe
data input registers while the CLOCK line provides system
timing.Its DATApin receives serial dataonthe rising edgeof
each CLOCK pulse, allowingthe desired attenuation settingbe selected.
