General Description
The DS3686isa high voltage/current positive voltage relay
driver having many featuresnot availablein present relay
drivers.
PNP inputs provide both TTL/LS compatibility and highin-
put impedanceforlow input loading.
Output leakageis specified over temperatureatan output
voltage of54V.Minimum output breakdown (ac/latch break-
down)is specified over temperatureat5 mA. This clearly
definesthe actual breakdownofthe device sincethe circuit
has incorporatedinitan internal reference which doesnot
allow output breakdown latching foundin existing relay driv-
ers. Additionally, this internal reference circuit featurewill
eliminatethe needin most casesofan external clamping
(inductive transient voltage protection) diode. When theout-
putis turned ‘‘OFF’’by input logic conditionsthe resulting
inductive voltage transient seen atthe outputis detectedby internal zener reference.The reference then momentari- activatesthe output transistor long enoughso thatthe
relay energyis discharged. This feature eliminatesthe need external circuit protection componentsand insures output
transistor protection.
The outputsare Darlington connected transistors, whichal-
low high current operationat low internal VCC current
levelsÐbase driveforthe output transistoris obtained from
the loadin proportiontothe required loading conditions.
Typical VCC power with both outputs ‘‘ON’’is90 mW.
The circuit also features output transistor protectionifthe
VCC supplyislostby forcingthe outputintothe high imped-
ance ‘‘OFF’’ state withthe same breakdown levelsas when
VCC was applied.
