General Description
The LS461isan 8-bit synchronous counter with parallel
load, clear,and hold capability. Two function select inputs
(I0,I1) provide oneoffour operations which occur synchro-
nouslyonthe rising edgeofthe clock (CK).
The LOAD operation loadsthe inputs (D7–D0)intotheout-
put register (Q7–Q0). The CLEAR operation resetstheout-
put registertoall LOWs. The HOLD operation holdsthe
previous value regardlessof clock transitions.The INCRE-
MENT operation addsonetothe output register whenthe
carry-in inputis TRUE(CIe LOW), otherwisethe operationa HOLD.The carry-out (CO)is TRUE(COe LOW) when
the output register (Q7–Q0)isall HIGHs, otherwise FALSE
(COe HIGH).
The output register (Q7–Q0)is enabled whenOEis LOW,
and disabled (HI-Z) whenOEis HIGH. The output drivers
will sinkthe24mA requiredfor manybus interface stand-
ards.
Twoor more LS461 octal counters maybe cascadedto
provide larger counters. The operation codes were chosen
such that whenI1is HIGH,I0 maybe usedto selectbe-
tween LOAD and INCREMENTasina program counter
(JUMP/INCREMENT).
