DESCRIPTIONThe UC3572isa negative output flyback pulse width modulator which con-
vertsa positive input voltagetoa regulated negative output voltage. The
chipis optimized for useina single inductor negative flyback switching con-
verter employing an external PMOS switch. The block diagram consistsof precision reference, an error amplifier configuredfor voltage mode opera-
tion, an oscillator,a PWM comparator with latching logic, anda 0.5A peak
gate driver. The UC3572 includes an undervoltage lockout circuitto insure
sufficient input supply voltageis present before any switching activity can
occur, anda pulse-by-pulse current limit. Output current canbe sensed and
limitedtoa user determined maximum value. The UVLO circuit turns the
chipoff when the input voltageis below the UVLO threshold.In addition,a
sleep comparator interfacesto the UVLO circuitto turn the chip off. This re-
duces the supply currentto only 50μA, making the UC3572 idealfor battery
powered applications.
