pinROtoresetanexternalmicrocontroller.WhenthelevelofVCCreachesthereset
thresholdVRT,thesignalatROremainsLOWforthePower-upresetdelaytimetRD
beforeswitchingtoHIGH.IfVCCdropsbelowtheresetthresholdVRTforatimeextending
theresetreactiontimetRR,theresetcircuitisactivatedandapowerdownsequenceof
periodtRDisinitiated.TheresetreactiontimetRRavoidswrongtriggeringcausedbyshort
“glitches”ontheVCC-line.

Thewatchdogusesonehundredoftheoscillator’sclocksignalperiodasatimebase,
definedasthewatchdogcycletimetCYL.
Afterpower-on,theresetoutputsignalattheROpin(microcontrollerreset)iskeptLOW
fortheresetdelaytimetRD,i.e.64cycles.WiththeLOWtoHIGHtransitionofthesignalROthedevicestartstheclosedwindowtimetCW=32cycles.Atriggersignalwithin
thiswindowisinterpretedasapretriggerfailureaccordingtothefiguresshownbelow.

LOWsamples(sampleperiodtCYL)aredecodedasavalidtrigger.Ifatriggersignal
appearsatthewatchdoginputpinWDIduringtheopenwindoworapowerup/down
occurs,thewatchdogwindowsignalisresetandanewclosedwindowfollows.resetisgenerated(ROgoesLOW)ifthereisnotriggerpulseduringtheopenwindowifapretriggeroccursduringtheclosedwindow.Thisresethappensafter64cycles
afterthelatestvalidclosedwindowstarttimeandlastsforfurther64cycles.
Thetriggeringiscorrectalso,ifthefirstthreesamples(twoHIGHoneLOW)ofthetrigger
pulseatpinWDIareinsidetheclosedwindowandonlythefourthsample(thesecond
LOWsample)istakenintheopenwindow.additiontothemicrocontrollerresetsignalROthedevicegeneratesasystemenable
signalatpinSEN.IfROisHIGHthesystemenablegoesactiveHIGHwiththefirstvalid
watchdogtriggerpulseatpinWDI.TheSENoutputgoesLOWimmediatelyifa
pretrigger,amissingtriggerorapowerdownresetoccurs.
