FunctionalDescription

TheTLE4278isamonolithicintegratedlow-dropfixed-voltageregulatorwhichcan
supplyloadsupto200mA.ThedeviceisavailableintheP-DSO-14-8package.Itis
designedtosupplymicroprocessorsystemsunderthesevereconditionsofautomotive
applicationsandthereforeequippedwithadditionalprotectionfunctionsagainstover
load,shortcircuitandovertemperature.OfcoursetheTLE4278canalsobeusedin
otherapplicationswhereastabilizedvoltageisrequired.inputvoltageVIintherangeof5.5VVI45VisregulatedtoVQ,nom=5Vwithan
accuracyof-2%.
ThedeviceoperatesinthewidetemperaturerangeofTj=–40to150C.
TwoadditionalfeaturesareimplementedintheTLE4278aloaddependentwatchdog
functionaswellasasophisticatedresetfunctionincludingpoweronreset,undervoltage
reset,adjustableresetdelaytimeandadjustableresetswitchingthreshold.
Thewatchdogfunctionmonitorsthemicrocontroller,includingtimebasefailures.Incaseamissingrisingedgewithinacertainpulserepetitiontimethewatchdogoutputisset
delaycapacitor.Topreventaresetincaseofmissingpulses,thewatchdogoutputWOseparatefromtheresetoutputROfortheTLE4278.Thewatchdogoutputcanbe
usedasaninterruptsignalforthemicrocontroller.Inanycaseitispossibletoconnect
pinWOandpinROexternally.
Whenthecontrollerissettosleepmodeorlowpowermodeitscurrentconsumption
dropsandnowatchdogpulsesarecreated.Inordertoavoidunnecessarywakeup
signalsduetomissingpulsesatpinWIthewatchdogfeaturecanbedisabledasa
functionoftheloadcurrent.Theswitchoffthresholdissetbyanexternalresistortopin
WADJ.Thewatchdogfunctioncanalsobeusedasatimer,whichperiodicallywakesup
thecontroller.ThereforethepinWADJhastobeconnectedtotheoutputQ.
Thepoweronresetfeatureisnecessaryforadefinedstartofthemicroprocessorwhen
switchingontheapplication.TheresetsignalatpinROgoeshighafteracertaindelay
timedtrdwhentheoutputvoltageoftheregulatorhassurpassedtheresetthreshold.The
delaytimeissetbytheexternaldelaycapacitor.Anundervoltageresetcircuit
supervisestheoutputvoltage.IncaseVQfallsbelowtheresetthresholdtheresetoutputsettoLOWafterashortresetreactiontimetrr.TheresetLOWsignalisgenerated
downtoanoutputvoltageVQof1V.Inadditiontheresetswitchingthresholdcanbe
adjustedbyanexternalvoltagedivider.Thisfeatureisusefulwithmicroprocessors
whichguaranteeasafeoperationdowntovoltagesbelowtheinternallysetreset
thresholdof4.65Vtypical.
