FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONDEFLECTION
Synchronization SeparatorThe synchronization separatoris based on the
bottomof synchronization pulses alignmenttoan
internal reference voltage. An external capacitor
permits toalign synchro. pulses,two externalresis-
tors determines the detection thresholdof synchro
pulses. The frame synchronization pulses are
lockedtoa 32μs reference signalto perfect inter-
lacing.
Horizontal ScanningThe horizontalscanningfrequencyis obtained from 500kHz VCO. The circuit uses two phase-locked
loops (PLL). The first one controls the frequency;
the second one, fully integrated, controls the rela-
tive phaseof the synchronization and the line fly-
back signals.
The first PLL has two times constants:a long time
constant during the pictureto havea good noise
immunity,a short time constantat the beginningof
the frameto recapturefaster the phasein caseof
VCR video signal. More over, the PLLisin short
time constant three lines before frame pulses oc-
cured,it permitsto ensure good interlacing when
the video signal comes froma VCR tape with high
phase error.
The horizontal output signalis 28μs width. On
starting up, horizontal pulses are enabledat
VCC= 6.8V. On shutting down, horizontal pulses
are inhibitedfor VCC= 6.2V.
Vertical ScanningThe windows for the frame sync detection are
generatedbya countdown system. The selection the windowsis determinedby theIC status: video identificationoff- window: 248/314 video identificationon- window: 248/352
Whena sync pulseis detected inside the window 10.5lines longpulseis providedto VOUT pin.
The countdown system provides also theneeded
signalsfor the time constant switch, the line PLL
inhibition and service signalsto the restof the IC.
CHROMA
ACC Amplifier, DL Matrix, Permutator and De-
modulatorThe correct chroma subcarrier input, issued from
bandpassor bellfilter, isinternally selected with the
standard. The ACC amplifier envolves three
stages: the first one select the correct input, the
second one the -6dBin picture (PAL mode), the
third oneis controledby the ACC voltage.
The dynamic rangeis over than 30dB.
The chrominance output signalis fedto the delay
line. PALmode:
the adding and substracting direct and delayed
signalsare performedby theDL matrix function.
Two synchronous demodulators multiplies
the (B-Y) signal with the0 degree phase
4.43MHz reference signal and the (R-Y) signal
with the alternate ±90 deg. 4.43MHz phase ref-
erence signal. SECAM mode:
thepermutatorseparatesthe two(B-Y)and(R-Y)
subcarriers. These signals are demodulatedby
two FM demodulators with two externalL,C
centered on fO(blue)= 4.25MHz and fO(red)=
4.406MHz.
4.43MHz Phase Locked LoopThe oscillating frequencyof the 4.43MHz crystal
oscillatoris controlledby the output voltageof the
loop filter. The phase detector will lock the90 de-
gree reference signalto the direct burst signal.90 degree phase shifter permitsto recover the degree reference signal.A flip-flop drivenby line
pulses permitsto generate the alternate ±90 de-
gree signal.
ACC Control and Color KillerPAL mode:
the directburst signalis demodulated with the ±90
degree reference signal. The demodulation result usedby ACC control and killer function.
SECAM mode:
ACC controlis done byaX2 demodulator. For
identificationthe burst signalsof the red and blue
lines are demodulatedby the external LC con-
nectedon Pin 31,itis centeredat 4.32MHz. This
give positive and negative signals which arein-
verted by the signal coming outof the SECAM
flip-flop. both standard,if the demodulation resultisal-
ways positive, the killer capacitoris charged and
the standardis identified (color ON). When de-
modulation resultis alwaysnegative, the killer ca-
pacitor voltage reaches the flip-flop inhibitionlevel, the alternace sequenceis reversed and the
capacitoris charged again. caseof no video signal, both killer capacitors
voltage are maintained about VCC/2, below the
coloroff threshold. PALor SECAM, the ACC control voltageis
obtainedby the peak detectionof the demodulated
burst.

Automatic Standard IdentificationThecircuitisalternatelyforced ineachmode during
two fields (PAL mode, SECAM mode disabledor
SECAM mode,PAL mode disabled). PALsignalis identified,the alternatePAL/SECAM
sequencyis lockedin PAL mode. havea SECAM identification, the circuit must
memorizesa first SECAM identification, than test
the PAL mode and confirma second SECAM iden-
tification. The SECAM identification will take from
fourtosix fields.
OutputPin21,namedPS,ishigh levelin PALmode
and low levelin SECAM mode.
Forced standard: Pin 21 can be used for the
purpose: Pin21to HVCC: PAL mode Pin21to ground: SECAMmode
VIDEO
Input StageThe luminance inputis controlledby the contrast
control stage which rangeis 20dB.
The luminance and color difference signals are
addedin the video matrix circuitto obtain the color
signals.
Thecolor signalsare senttoan RGB switch which
will driveto the outputs either internal RGB signals external RGB signals.
Automatic Cut-off ControlTheblack levelsof the RGB outputs are controlled
with the cut-off loops during three line periods after
the frame retrace. The cut-off measurements are
sequentiallyachieved duringthese threelines. The
leakage current measurementis achieved during
the frame retrace and memorizedon an internal
capacitor, thus the circuitis ableto extract the
cut-offcurrent from the total currentmeasurement.
Warm-up Detector the start-up, the cut-off loops are switch off,a
white levelis inserted ontheluminance signal until cathode currentis detected. Then the cut-off
loops are released.
RGB Inputs avoid the black levelof the inserted signal
differing from the black levelof the normal video
signal, the external RGB are clampedto the black
levelof the luminance signal. Therefore, an AC
couplingis requiredfor the RGB inputs.
The RGB inputs are controlledbya 12dB range
contrast controlstage.
