DESCRIPTION

The STM86312isa VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent
Display) controller/driver thatis drivenona1/4to
1/11-duty factor.It consistsof 11-segments output
lines,6 grid output lines,5 segments/grid output
drive lines,a display memory,a control circuit, and key scan circuit. Serial data are inputto the
STM86312 througha three-line serial interface.
This VFD controller/driveris idealasa peripheral
devicefora single-chip microcomputer.

The display RAM storesthe data transmitted froman external devicetothe STM86312 throughthe serial
interface; addressesareas follows,in 8-bits unit:
"0"in memory means VEEon output;"1"in memory meansVDDon output.

The SW dataare readbythe appropriate read command, starting fromthe least significantbit. Bits5
through8ofthe SW dataare0.
COMMANDS
command setsthe display mode and statusofthe VFD driver.
The first1 byte inputtothe STM86312 throughtheDINpin afterthe STBpin has fallenis regardedasa
command.If STBisset high while commands/data are transmitted, serial communicationis initialized,
andthe commands/data being transmittedare invalid (however,the commands/data already transmitted
remain valid).
(1) DISPLAY MODE SETTING COMMAND

This command initializesthe STM86312 and selectsthe numberof segments and numberof grids (1/4to
1/11 duty,11 segmentsto16 segments).
When this commandis executed, displayis forcibly turnedoff, and key scanningis also stopped.To
resume display,the displayON command mustbe executed.Ifthe same modeis selected, however,
nothingis performed. power application,the 11-digit 11-segment modeis selected.

(2) DATA SETTING COMMAND

This command sets data write and data read modes. power application,the normal operation mode and address increment modeareset.not use STM86312in test mode.
(3) ADDRESS SETTING COMMAND

This command setsan addressofthe display memory address 16Hor higheris set,the dataare ignored, untila correct addressis set. power application,the addressissetto 00H.
(4) DISPLAY CONTROL COMMAND
power application,the 1/16-pulse widthisset andthe displayis turnedoff.On power application,key scanningis stopped.
