General Description
The PC87334VLJ/PC87334VJGisa single chip solutionfor
most commonly usedI/O peripheralsin ISA, EISAandMi-
croChannelÉ based computers.It incorporatesa Floppy
Disk Controller (FDC), twofull featured UARTs,an IEEE
1284 compatible parallel portandallthe necessary control
logicforan IDEinterface. Standard PC-ATÉ address decod-
ing forallthe peripheralsand asetof configuration registers
are also implementedinthis highly integrated memberof
the SuperI/O family. Advanced power management fea-
tures, mixed voltage operation and integrated Serial-Infra-
Red (SIR) support makesthe PC87334an ideal choicefor
low-power and/or portable personal computer applications.
The PC87334 FDC usesa high performance digital data
separator eliminatingthe needforany external filter compo-
nents.Itis fully compatible withthe PC8477 and incorpo-
ratesa supersetof DP8473, NEC mPD765 andN82077 flop- disk controller functions.All popular 5.25×and 3.5× flop- drives, includingthe 2.88MB 3.5× floppy drive,are sup-
ported.In addition, automatic media senseand2 Mbps tape
drive supportare providedbythe FDC.
Thetwo UARTsare fully NS16450and NS16550 compati-
ble. Both ports support MIDI baud rates andone port also
supports IrDAandtheHPSIR compliant signaling protocol.
The parallel portis fully IEEE 1284 level2 compatible.The
SPP (Standard Parallel Port)is fully compatible with ISA,
EISA and MicroChannel parallel ports.In additiontothe
SPP, EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port)and ECP (ExtendedCa-
pabilities Port) modesare supportedbythe parallel port.
AllIDE control signalswith DMA supportare provided bythe
PC87334. Only external signal buffersare requiredtoimple-
