General Description
The PC8477B CMOS advanced floppy disk controllerisan
enhanced versionof National’s DP8473 floppy controller.
The PC8477Bis software compatible withthe DP8473and
NECmPD765 floppydisk controllers.In addition,itispinand
software compatible withthe Intel 82077AA floppy control-
ler. The PC8477B,a24 MHz crystal,a device chip select,
anda resistor packageareallthatis neededfora complete
PC-ATÉ, PS/2Éor EISA floppy controller solution.
The PC8477B includes advanced features suchasa byte FIFO (Burstand Non-Burst modes), supportof Per-
pendicular Recording Mode disk drives, PS/2 diagnostic
registersfor Model30 and Models 50/60/80, standard
CMOS diskI/O,and additional commandsto control these
new features. The16 byte FIFOwill increase system per-
formanceat higher data rates and with multi-taskingbus
structures. This controlleris designedtofitintoall PC-AT,
EISA,and PS/2 designs,aswellas other advanced applica-
tions.
