General Description
The MM54C85/MM74C85isa four-bit magnitude compara-
tor whichwill perform comparisonof straight binaryor BCD
codes. The circuit consistsof eight comparing inputs (A0,
A1,A2,A3,B0,B1,B2,B3), three cascading inputs(AlB,kBandAeB),and three outputs(AlB,AkBandeB). This device comparestwo four-bit words(AandB)
and determines whether they are ‘‘greater than,’’ ‘‘less
than,’’or ‘‘equalto’’ each otherbya high level onthe appro-
priate output.For words greater than four-bits, unitscanbe
cascadedby connectingthe outputs(AlB,AkB,andeB)ofthe least significant stagetothe cascade inputslB,AkBandAeB)ofthe next-significant stage.In
additionthe least significant stage must havea high level
voltage (VIN(1)) appliedtotheAeB inputandlow level
voltage (VIN(0)) appliedtoAlBandAkB inputs.
