General DescriptionThe LP4950C and LP4951C are micropower voltage regu-
lators with very low quiescent current (75µA typ.) and very
low dropout voltage (typ. 40mVat light loads and 380mVat
100mA). They are ideally suitedfor usein battery-powered
systems. Furthermore, the quiescent current of the
LP4950C/LP4951C increases only slightlyin dropout, pro-
longing battery life.
The LP4950Cin the popular 3-pin TO-92 packageis pin
compatible with older5V regulators. The 8-lead LP4951Cis
availableina plastic surface mount package and offers
additional system functions.
One such featureisan error flag output which warnsofa low
output voltage, often dueto falling batteriesonthe input.It
maybe usedfora power-on reset.A second featureis the
logic-compatible shutdown input which enablesthe regulatorbe switchedon andoff. Also,the part maybe pin-strapped
fora5V outputor programmed from 1.24Vto 29V withan
external pairof resistors.
Careful designof the LP4950C/LP4951C has minimizedall
contributionsto the error budget. This includesa tight initial
tolerance (.5% typ.), extremely good load and line regulation
(.05% typ.) anda very low output voltage temperature coef-
ficient, makingthe part usefulasa low-power voltage refer-
ence.
