General DescriptionThe LP3947isa complete charge management system that
safely charges and maintainsa Li-Ion battery from either
USB power source orAC adaptor.In USB mode,the LP3947
supports chargingin low poweror high power mode. Alter-
natively, the LP3947 can take charge fromAC adaptor.In
both USB andAC adaptor modes, charge current, battery
regulation voltage, and Endof Charge (EOC) point canbe
selectedviaI2C interface. The LP3947 can also operateon
default values that are pre-programmedin the factory. The
battery temperatureis monitored continuouslyattheTspin safeguard against hazardous charging conditions. The
charger also has under-voltage and over-voltage protection wellasan internal5.6hr timerto protectthe battery. The
pass transistor and charge current sensing resistor areall
integrated insidethe LP3947.
The LP3947 operatesin four modes: pre-qualification, con-
stant current, constant voltage and maintenance modes.
There are two open drain outputsfor status indication.An
internal amplifier readily converts the charge current intoa
voltage. Also, the charger can operateinan LDO mode
providinga maximumof 1.2 Amptothe load.
