General DescriptionThe LMV431, LMV431A and LMV431Bare precision 1.24V
shunt regulators capableof adjustmentto 30V. Negative
feedback from the cathodeto the adjust pin controls the
cathode voltage, much likea non-invertingop amp configu-
ration (Referto Symbol and Functional diagrams).A two
resistor voltage divider terminatedatthe adjustpin controls
the gainofa 1.24V band-gap reference. Shorting the cath-
odeto the adjustpin (voltage follower) providesa cathode
voltageofa 1.24V.
The LMV431, LMV431A and LMV431B have respectiveini-
tial tolerancesof 1.5%,1% and 0.5%, and functionally lends
themselvesto several applications that require zener diode
type performanceat low voltages. Applications includea3V 2.7V low drop-out regulator,an error amplifierina 3V
off-line switching regulator and evenasa voltage detector.
These partsare typically stable with capacitive loads greater
than 10nF and less than 50pF.
