Dual Lambda Sensor Interface Amplifier
General Description

The LM9040isa dual sensor interface circuit consistingof
two independent sampled input differential amplifiers de-
signedfor use with conventional Lambda Oxygen Sensors.
The Lambda Sensoris usedfor monitoringthe oxygen con-
centrationinthe exhaustof gasoline engines using catalytic
after treatment and will delivera voltage signal whichis
dependentonthe air-fuel mixture. The gainofthe amplifiers
are internally set and can directly convertthe Lambda sen-
sor output voltagetoa level suitablefor A/D conversionina
system usinga5V reference.
The input common mode voltage rangeof each amplifieris
±2V with respectto theIC ground pin. Thiswill allow theIC connectto sensors which are remotely groundedat the
engine exhaust manifoldor exhaust pipe.
Each amplifieris capableof independent default operation
should either,or both,ofthe leadstoa sensor become open
circuited.
Noise filteringis providedbyan internal switched capacitor
low pass filteras partof each amplifier, andby external
components.
The LM9040is fully specified over the automotive tempera-
ture rangeof −40˚Cto +125˚C andis providedina 14-pin
Small Outline surface mount package.
