General DescriptionThe LM78isa highly integrated Data Acquisition systemfor
hardware monitoringof servers, Personal Computers,or
virtually any microprocessor based system.Ina PC, the
LM78 canbe usedto monitor power supply voltages, tem-
peratures, and fan speeds. Actual valuesfor these inputs
canbe readat any time, and programmable WATCHDOG
limitsin the LM78 activatea fully programmable and
maskable interrupt system with two outputs.
The LM78 hasan on-chip temperature sensor,5 positive
analog inputs, two inverting inputs (for monitoring negative
voltages), andan 8-bit ADC.An inputis providedfor the
overtemperature outputsof additional temperature sensors
and thisis linkedtothe interrupt system. The LM78 provides
inputsfor threefan tachometer outputs. Additional inputs are
providedfor Chassis Intrusion detection circuits, VID monitor
inputs, and chainable interrupt. The LM78 provides both ISA
and Serial Bus interfaces.A 32-byte auto-increment RAMis
providedfor POST (PowerOn Self Test) code storage.
