General DescriptionThe LM4540isan audio codecforPC systems which per-
formsthe analog-intensive functionofthe Analog Codec’97
Rev 1.03 architecture. Using 18-BitΣΔA/DandD/A convert-
ers,the LM4540 provides 90dBof dynamic range.
The LM4540 was designed specificallyto providea high
qualityaudio pathandprovideall analogfunctionalityin aPC
audio system.It featuresfull duplex stereo A/D’sand D/A’s
andan analog mixer with2 stereoand3 mono inputs, each whichhas separate gain, attenuationand mute control.In
addition,the LM4540 provides National’s3D Sound stereo
enhancement technology.
The LM4540featuresAC-Link, asynchronous, fixedratese-
rialbusfor connectiontothe digitalAC’97 Controller. The
separationofthe analogand digital functionsoftheAC’97
architecture allowsfor system design flexibility andin-
creased overall performance.
