General DescriptionThe LM3620 seriesof controllers are monolithic integrated
circuits designedto control the charging and end-of-charge
controlfor lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. The LM3620is
availablein two versionsfor oneor two cell charger applica-
tions. Each version provides the optionof selecting the
appropriate termination voltagefor either cokeor graphite
anode lithium cells.
The LM3620 can operate froma wide rangeof DC input
sources (4Vto 30V). Withno charger supply connected,the
controller drawsa quiescent currentof only 10nAto minimize
dischargingofa connected battery pack.
The LM3620 consistsofan operational transconductance
amplifier,a bandgap voltage reference,a NPN driver tran-
sistor and precision voltage setting resistors. The outputof
the amplifieris made availableto drivean external power
transistorif higher drive currents are required.
Witha trimmed output voltage regulationof ±1.2% initial
accuracy,the LM3620 providesa simple, precise solutionfor
end-of-charge controlof lithium-ion rechargeable cells.
The LM3620is packagedina miniature 5-lead SOT-23
surface mount packagefor very compact designs.
