General DescriptionThe LM3485isa high efficiency PFET switching regulator
controller that canbe usedto quickly and easily developa
small, low cost, switching buck regulatorfora wide rangeof
applications. The hysteretic control architecture providesfor
simple design without any control loop stability concerns
usinga wide varietyof external components. The PFET
architecture also allowsfor low component countas wellas
ultra-low dropout, 100% duty cycle operation. Another ben-
efitis high efficiency operationat light loads withoutan
increasein output ripple.
Current limit protectionis providedby measuringthe voltage
acrossthe PFET’s RDS(ON), thus eliminating the needfora
sense resistor. The cycle-by-cycle current limit canbe ad-
justed witha single resistor, ensuring safe operation overa
rangeof output currents.
