General DescriptionThe LM3411isalow power fixed-voltage (3.3Vor 5.0V) pre-
cision shunt regulator designed specificallyfor drivingan op-
toisolatorto provide feedback isolationina switching regula-
tor.
The LM3411 circuitry includesan internally compensatedop
amp,a bandgap reference, NPN output transistor, and volt-
age setting resistors. trimmed precision bandgap reference with temperature
drift curvature correction, providesa guaranteed 1% preci-
sion overthe operating temperature range(A grade version).
The amplifier’s inverting inputis externally accessiblefor
loop frequency compensation when usedas partofa larger
servo system. The outputisan open-emitter NPN transistor
capableof drivingupto15 mAof load current.
Becauseofits small die size, the LM3411 has been made
availablein the sub-miniature 5-lead SOT23-5 surface
mount package. This packageis idealfor usein space criti-
cal applications.
Althoughits main applicationisto providea precision output
voltage(no trimming required) and maintain very good regu-
lationin isolated DC/DC converters,it can alsobe used with
other typesof voltage regulatorsor power semiconductorsto
providea precision output voltage without precision resistors trimming.
