General Description
The LM3411isalow power fixed-voltage (3.3Vor 5.0V)
precision shunt regulator designed specificallyfor drivingan
optoisolatorto providefeedback isolationin aswitchingreg-
ulator.
The LM3411 circuitry includesan internallycompensatedop
amp,a bandgap reference, NPN output transistor,and volt-
age setting resistors. trimmed precision bandgap reference with temperature
drift curvature correction, providesa guaranteed1% preci-
sion overthe operating temperature range(A grade ver-
sion).The amplifier’s inverting inputis externally accessible
for loop frequency compensation when usedas partofa
larger servo system. The outputisan open-emitter NPN
transistor capableof drivingupto15mAof load current.
Becauseofits smalldie size,oneofthe available packagesthe sub-miniature 5-lead SOT23-5 surface mount pack-
age. This packageis idealforusein space critical applica-
tions.
Althoughits mainapplicationisto providea precision output
voltage(no trimming required)and maintain very good regu-
lationin isolated DC/DC converters,itcan alsobe usedwith
other typesof voltage regulatorsor power semiconductors providea precision output voltage without precision resis-
torsor trimming.
