APPLICATION HINTSThe LM236, LM336 voltage referencesare easierto
use than zener diodes. Their low impedance and
wide current range facilitate biasingin any circuits.
Besides,the breakdown voltageor thetemperature
coefficientcanbe adjustedsoasto optimizethe per-
formanceof the circuit.
Figure1 representsa LM336 witha 10kΩ potenti-
ometerto adjustthe reversebreakdownvoltagecan adjustedwithout altering the temperature coeffi-
cientof the circuit. The adjustment rangeis gener-
ally sufficientto adjustthe initial toleranceof the cir-
cuit and the inaccuracyof the amplifier circuit. obtaina lower temperaturecoefficienttwodiodes
canbe connectedin seriesas indicatedin Figure2.
When the circuitis adjustedto 2.49V the tempera-
ture coefficientis minimized.
Fora correct temperature coefficient, the diodes
shouldbeat the same ambient temperatureas the
LM336. The valueof R1is not critical (2-20kΩ).
