General DescriptionThe LM3200isa DC-DC converter optimizedfor powering power amplifiers (PAs) froma single Lithium-Ion cell.It
steps downan input voltageof 2.7Vto 5.5Vtoa variable
output voltageof 0.8Vto 3.6V. The output voltageis set
usingan analog input( VCON)for optimizing efficiencyofthePAat various power levels.
The LM3200 offers superior features and performancefor
mobile phones and similar RF PA applications. Fixed-
frequency PWM mode minimizes RF interference. Bypass
mode turnsonan internal bypass switchto power thePA
directly fromthe battery. LM3200 has both forced and auto-
matic bypass modes. Shutdown mode turns the deviceoff
and reduces battery consumptionto 0.1 µA (typ.). The
LM3200is availableina 10-pin lead free micro SMD pack-
age.A high switching frequency(2 MHz) allows useof tiny
surface-mount components. Only three small external
surface-mount components,an inductor and two ceramic
capacitors are required.
