General DescriptionThe LM2907, LM2917 series are monolithic frequencyto
voltage converters witha high gainop amp/comparator de-
signedto operatea relay, lamp,or other load whenthe input
frequency reachesor exceedsa selected rate. The tachom-
eter usesa charge pump technique and offers frequency
doublingfor low ripple,full input protectionin two versions
(LM2907-8, LM2917-8) andits output swingsto groundfora
zero frequency input.
Theop amp/comparatoris fully compatible withthe tachom-
eter and hasa floating transistorasits output. This feature
allows eithera groundor supply referred loadofupto50 mA.
The collector maybe taken above VCCuptoa maximum VCE 28V.
The two basic configurations offered includean 8-pin device
witha ground referenced tachometer input andan internal
connection betweenthe tachometer output andtheop amp
non-inverting input. This versionis well suitedfor single
speedor frequency switchingor fully buffered frequencyto
voltage conversion applications.
The more versatile configurations provide differential ta-
chometer input and uncommittedop amp inputs. With this
versionthe tachometer input maybe floated andtheop amp
becomes suitablefor active filter conditioningofthe tachom-
eter output.
Bothof these configurations are available withan active
shunt regulator connected across the power leads. The
regulator clamps the supply such that stable frequencyto
voltage and frequencyto current operations are possible
with any supply voltage anda suitable resistor.
