General Description

The LM27262isa versatile synchronous buck voltage regu-
lator controller designed accordingtothe Intel VRD10 Speci-
fication.It’sa fixed-frequency voltage-mode control PWM
with average current modulationof the reference voltageto
achieve the desired output impedance. This approach im-
partsa pseudo current mode behaviorto the control loop.
The part providesthe controlfora voltage regulator consist-
ingof either2-,3-or 4-phasesto provide powertoa desktop
CPU. Pulse-by-pulse phase current balancing ensures ac-
curate current sharing. CPU core currentsof over 90A can supported without requiring significant over designofthe
power path. The LM27262 containsa precision 6-bit digital-
to-analog converter (DAC) that usesa VID-code providedby
the CPUto program the desired CPU core voltage. The
regulator output voltage canbe dynamically adjustedby
changingthe VID-code “onthe fly”.
The partis intendedto provideallthe specified functions laid
outin the VRD-10 specification, makingitas simpleas
possiblefor the userto realizea fully compliant CPU core
supplyfor Intel’s Pentium™4 and Prescott™ processors.
The LM27262is availableina 48-lead TSSOP package anda 48-lead LLP package.
