General DescriptionThe LM2679 seriesof regulators are monolithic integrated
circuits which provideallof the active functionsfora step-
down (buck) switching regulator capableof drivingupto5A
loads with excellent line and load regulation characteristics.
High efficiency (>90%)is obtained through the useofa low
ON-resistance DMOS power switch. The series consistsof
fixed output voltagesof 3.3V,5V and 12V andan adjustable
output version.
The SIMPLE SWITCHER concept providesfora complete
design usinga minimum numberof external components.A
high fixed frequency oscillator (260KHz) allows the useof
physically smaller sized components.A familyof standard
inductorsfor use withthe LM2679are available from several
manufacturersto greatly simplifythe design process.
Other features include the abilityto reduce the input surge
currentat power-ONby addinga softstart timing capacitorto
gradually turnonthe regulator. The LM2679 series also has
builtin thermal shutdown and resistor programmable current
limitof the power MOSFET switchto protectthe device and
load circuitry under fault conditions. The output voltageis
guaranteedtoa ±2% tolerance. The clock frequencyis
controlledto withina ±11% tolerance.
