General DescriptionThe LM2670 seriesof regulators are monolithic integrated
circuits which provideallof the active functionsfora step-
down (buck) switching regulator capableof drivingupto3A
loads with excellent line and load regulation characteristics.
High efficiency (>90%)is obtained through the useofa low
ON-resistance DMOS power switch. The series consistsof
fixed output voltagesof 3.3V,5V and 12V andan adjustable
output version.
The SIMPLE SWITCHER concept providesfora complete
design usinga minimum numberof external components.
The switching clock frequency canbe providedbyan inter-
nal fixed frequency oscillator (260KHz)or froman externally
provided clockin the rangeof 280KHzto 400Khz which
allows the useof physically smaller sized components.A
familyof standard inductorsfor use with the LM2670 are
available from several manufacturersto greatly simplify the
design process. The external Sync clock provides direct and
precise controlof the output ripple frequencyfor consistent
filteringor frequency spectrum positioning.
The LM2670 series also has builtin thermal shutdown,
current limiting andan ON/OFF control input that can power
downthe regulatortoa low 50µA quiescent current standby
condition. The output voltageis guaranteedtoa ±2% toler-
ance.
