General DescriptionThe LM2650isa step-down DC/DC converter featuring high
efficiency overa3Ato milliamperes load range. This feature
makesthe LM2650an idealfitin battery-powered applica-
tions that demand long batterylifein both run and standby
modes.
The LM2650 also featuresa logic-controlled shutdown mode whichit drawsat most 25μA fromthe input power supply.
The LM2650 employsa fixed-frequency pulse-width modu-
lation (PWM) and synchronous rectificationto achieve very
high efficiencies.In many applications, efficiencies reach
95%+for loads around1A and exceed 90%for moderateto
heavy loads from 0.2Ato 2A. low-power hystereticor ″sleep″ mode keeps efficiencies
highat light loads. The LM2650 enters and exits sleep mode
automaticallyasthe load crosses ″sleepin″ and ″sleep out″
thresholds. The LM2650 provides nodesfor programming
both thresholdsvia external resistors.Alogic input allowsthe
userto override the automatic sleep feature and keep the
LM2650in PWM mode regardlessof the load level. optional soft-start feature limits current surges from the
input power supplyat startup and providesa simple means sequencing multiple power supplies.
