SIMPLE SWITCHER® 3A Step-Down Voltage Regulator
General DescriptionThe LM2576 seriesof regulators are monolithic integrated
circuits that provideallthe active functionsfora step-down
(buck) switching regulator, capableof driving3A load with
excellent line and load regulation. These devices are avail-
ablein fixed output voltagesof 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V, andan
adjustable output version.
Requiringa minimum numberof external components, these
regulators are simpleto use and include internal frequency
compensation anda fixed-frequency oscillator.
The LM2576 series offersa high-efficiency replacementfor
popular three-terminal linear regulators.It substantiallyre-
duces the sizeof the heat sink, andin some casesno heat
sinkis required. standard seriesof inductors optimizedfor use with the
LM2576 are available from several different manufacturers.
This feature greatly simplifies the designof switch-mode
power supplies.
Other features includea guaranteed ±4% toleranceon out-
put voltage within specified input voltages and output load
conditions, and ±10%on the oscillator frequency. External
shutdownis included, featuring50µA (typical) standby cur-
rent. The output switch includes cycle-by-cycle current limit-
ing,as wellas thermal shutdownfor full protection under
fault conditions.
