General Description
The LM1921 Relay Driver incorporatesan integrated power
PNP transistorasthe maindriving element.The advantages this over previous integrated circuits employing NPN
power elementsare several. Greater output voltagesare
availableoffthe same supplyfor driving grounded loads;
typically4.5 voltsfora500mA load froma5.0volt supply.
The outputcan swing below ground potentialupto57 volts
negativewith respecttothe positive power supply. Thiscan usedto facilitate rapid decay timesin inductive loads.
Also,theICis immuneto negative supply voltagesor tran-
sients.The inherent Safe Operating Areaofthe lateral PNP
allowsuseoftheICasa bulb driverorfor capacitive loads.
Familiar integrated circuit features suchas short circuitpro-
tectionand thermal shutdownare also provided. The input
voltage threshold levelsare designedtobe TTL, CMOS,
and LSTTL compatible overthe entire operating tempera-
ture range.If several driversare usedina system, their
inputs and/or outputs maybe combinedand wired together their supply voltagesare also common.
