Operational Amplifiers
General Description

The LM101A seriesare general purpose operational amplifi-
ers which feature improved performance over industry stan-
dards likethe LM709. Advanced processing techniques
make possiblean orderof magnitude reductionin inputcur-
rents, anda redesignofthe biasing circuitry reducesthe
temperature driftof input current. Improved specificationsin-
clude: Offset voltage3 mV maximum over temperature
(LM101A/LM201A) Input current 100 nA maximum over temperature
(LM101A/LM201A) Offset current20 nA maximum over temperature

This amplifier offers many features which makeits appli-
cation nearly foolproof: overload protectiononthe input
andoutput,no latch-up whenthe common mode rangeis
exceeded,and freedom from oscillationsand compensa-
tion witha single30pF capacitor.Ithas advantages over
internally compensated amplifiersin thatthe frequency
compensation canbe tailoredtothe particular applica-
tion.For example,in lowfrequency circuits itcanbe over-
compensatedfor increased stability margin.Orthe com-
pensationcanbe optimizedto give more thana factorof
ten improvementin high frequency performancefor most
applications.
Inaddition,the device provides better accuracyand lower
noisein high impedance circuitry.Thelow input currents
also makeit particularlywell suitedfor long interval inte-
gratorsor timers, sampleand hold circuitsandlowfre-
quency waveform generators. Further, replacing circuits
where matched transistor pairs bufferthe inputsof con-
ventionalICop amps, itcangive lower offset voltageanddriftata lower cost.
The LM101Ais guaranteed overa temperature rangeof
−55˚Cto +125˚C,the LM201A from −25˚Cto +85˚C,and
the LM301A from0˚Cto +70˚C.
