DESCRIPTION

The L6590Aisa monolithic switching regulator de-
signedin BCD OFF-LINEtechnology, ableto operate
with wide range input voltage andto deliver upto
15W output power. The internal power switchisa lat-
eral power MOSFET witha typical RDS(on)of 13Ω
anda V(BR)DSSof 700V minimum.

DESCRIPTION

The MOSFETis source-grounded, thusitis possible build flyback, boost and forward converters.
The deviceis meantto work with secondary feed-
backfor tight toleranceof the regulated output volt-
age.
The internal fixed oscillator frequency and the inte-
grated non dissipative start-up generator minimize
the external component count and power consump-
tion.
The deviceis equipped witha standby function that
automatically reduces the oscillator frequency fromto22 kHz under light load conditionsto enhance
efficiency (Pin <1W@ Pout= 0.5W with wide range
mains).
Internal protections like cycle-by-cycle current limit-
ing, latched output overvoltage protection, mains un-
dervoltage protection and thermal shutdown
generatea 'robust' design solution.
TheIC usesa special leadframe with the ground pins
(6,7 and8) internally connectedin orderfor heatto easily removed from the silicon die. An heatsink
can thenbe realizedby simply making provisionof
few cm2of copperon the PCB. Furthermore, the pin
closeto the high-voltage oneis not connectedto
ease compliance with safety distanceson the PCB.
