The FLC21 series has been especially developed
for capacitance discharge operation. The main
applications are: fuel ignitors, fuelor gas heaters,
gas ranges, cooker tops, barbecues, water
heaters, HVACs, portable ignitors, insect killers.
Based on ST’s ASD™ technology,it providesa
fully integrated function, with high performance
and reliability levels, adaptedto severe and hot
temperature environment.
The typical supplyof the FLC21 fire lighter circuitis DC batteryor the AC mains.
Th: Thyristorfor the switching operation.
Zener diodeto set the igniting threshold voltage.
Diodefor the reverse conduction.

1/ IGNITION MODE
PHASE 1The AC voltageis rectifiedby the diode Ds.
The ignition energyis suppliedby the mains
and stored into the capacitorC.

PHASE 2 the endof the phase1, the voltage across the
capacitorC reaches the avalanche thresholdof
the Zener diodeZ. Then,a current flows through
this Zener diode into the gateof the thyristor Th
whichis triggered.
The thyristor turn-on generates an alternating
current through the capacitorC.Its positive parts
flow through the capacitorC, the primaryof the HV
transformer and the thyristor Th.Its negative parts the current flow throughC,D and the primaryof
the H.V transformer.
FLC21 Series RESISTANCE CALCULATIONThe Rs resistance allows,in addition with the
capacitanceC, the spark frequencytobe adjusted
and the current suppliedby the mainstobe limited.
This resistance allows the thyristor triggeringin
any requested cases.In the worst case scenario,
the system must fire when the a.c. line voltageis
minimum while the breakdown voltage VBO and
the current IBOof the FLC are maximum.

The couple Rs/C canbe chosen with the previous
