General DescriptionThe DS89C21isa differential CMOS line driver and receiver
pair, designedto meet the requirementsof TIA/EIA-422-A
(RS-422) electrical characteristics interface standard. The
DS89C21 provides one driver and one receiverina mini-
mum footprint. The deviceis offeredinan 8-pin SOIC pack-
age.
The CMOS design minimizes the supply currentto6 mA,
makingthe device idealfor usein battery poweredor power
conscious applications.
The driver featuresa fast transition time specifiedat2.2ns,
anda maximum differential skewof2ns making the driver
idealfor usein high speed applications operating above MHz.
The receiver can detect signalsas lowas 200 mV, and also
incorporates hysteresisfor noise rejection. Skewis specified4ns maximum.
The DS89C21is compatible with TTL and CMOS levels(DI
and RO).
