General DescriptionThe DS16F95/DS36F95 Differential Bus Transceiverisa
monolithic integrated circuit designedfor bidirectional data
communicationon balanced multipoint bus transmission
lines. The transceiver meets both EIA-485 and EIA-422A
standards.
The DS16F95/DS36F95 offers improved performance dueto
theuseof L-FAST bipolar technology.The L-FAST technol-
ogy allowsfor higher speedsand lower currentsby minimiz-
ing gate delaytimes. Thus, theDS16F95and DS36F95con-
sume less power, and featurean extended temperature
rangeaswellas improved specifications.
The DS16F95/DS36F95 combinesa TRI-STATE® differen-
tialline driver anda differential inputline receiver, bothof
which operate froma single 5.0V power supply. The driver
and receiver havean active Enable thatcanbe externally
connectedto functionasa direction control.The driverdiffer-
ential outputsandthe receiver differential inputsare inter-
nally connectedto form differential input/output (I/O) bus
portsthatare designedto offer minimum loadingtothebus
wheneverthe driveris disabledor when VCC=0V. These
ports featurewide positiveand negative common mode volt-
age ranges, makingthe device suitablefor multipoint appli-
cationsin noisy environments.
The driveris designedto accommodateloads ofup to60mA sinkor source currentand features positiveand negative
current limitingin additionto thermal shutdownforprotection
fromline fault conditions.
The DS16F95/DS36F95 canbe usedin transmission line
applications employingthe DS96F172 andthe DS96F174
quad differential line drivers and the DS96F173 and
DS96F175 quad differentialline receivers.
