General DescriptionThe DS36C280isa low power differential bus/line trans-
ceiver designedto meet the requirementsof RS-485 Stan-
dardfor multipoint data transmission.In addition,itis com-
patible with TIA/EIA-422-B.
The slew rate control feature allowsthe usertosetthe driver
rise andfall timesby usingan external resistor. Controlled
edge rates can reduce switching EMI.
The CMOS design offers significant power savings overits
bipolar and ALS counterparts without sacrificing ruggedness
against ESD damage. The deviceis idealfor usein battery
poweredor power conscious applications. ICCis specifiedat
500µA maximum.
The driver and receiver outputs feature TRI-STATE® capa-
bility. The driver outputs operate over the entire common
mode rangeof −7Vto +12V. Bus contentionor fault situa-
tions are handledbya thermal shutdown circuit, which
forcesthe driver outputs into the high impedance state.
The receiver incorporatesafail safe circuit which guarantees high output state whenthe inputs areleft open (Note1).
