General DescriptionThe DS3695, DS3696, and DS3697 are high speed differ-
ential TRI-STATE® bus/line transceivers/repeaters designed meet the requirementsof EIA standard RS485 with ex-
tended common mode range (+12Vto −7V),for multipoint
data transmission.
The driver and receiver outputs feature TRI-STATE capabil-
ity. The driver outputs remainin TRI-STATE over the entire
common mode rangeof +12Vto −7V. Bus faults that cause
excessive power dissipation withinthe device triggera ther-
mal shutdown circuit, which forcesthe driver outputs intothe
high impedance state. The DS3696 providesan output pin (thermal shutdown) which reports the occurrenceof the
thermal shutdownofthe device. Thisisan “open collector”
pin withan internal10kΩ pull-up resistor. This allowsthe line
fault outputsof several devicestobe wire OR-ed.
BothAC and DC specifications are guaranteed overthe 0˚C 70˚C temperature and 4.75Vto 5.25V supply voltage
range.
