General DescriptionUsingan innovative multistep conversion technique,the
12-bitADC12762CMOS analog-to-digital converter digitizes
signalsata1.4 MHz samplingrate while consuminga maxi-
mumof only 300 mWona single +5V supply. The
ADC12762 performsa 12-bit conversionin three
lower-resolution “flash” conversions, yieldingafastA/D with-
outthecostand power dissipation associatedwithtrue flash
approaches.
The analog input voltagetothe ADC12762is trackedand
heldbyan internal sampling circuit, allowing high frequency
input signalstobe accurately digitized withoutthe needfor externalsample-and-hold circuit. TheADC12762 features
two sample-and-hold/flash comparator sections which allow
the converterto acquire one sample while convertingthe
previous. This pipelining technique increases conversion
speed without sacrificing performance.The multiplexerout-
putis availabletothe userin orderto perform additionalex-
ternal signal processing beforethe signalis digitized.
Whenthe converterisnot digitizing signals,itcan beplacedthe Standby mode; typical power consumptionin this
modeis250 μW.
