General DescriptionUsing an innovative multistep conversion technique, the
12-bit ADC12662 CMOS analog-to-digital converter digitizes
signalsata1.5 MHz sampling rate while consuminga maxi-
mumof only 200 mW ona single +5V supply. The
ADC12662 performs a 12-bit conversion in three
lower-resolution “flash” conversions, yieldinga fast A/D with-
outthe cost and power dissipation associated with true flash
approaches.
The analog input voltageto the ADC12662is tracked and
heldbyan internal sampling circuit, allowing high frequency
input signalstobe accurately digitized withoutthe needfor external sample-and-hold circuit.TheADC12662 features
two sample-and-hold/flash comparator sections which allow
the converterto acquire one sample while converting the
previous. This pipelining technique increases conversion
speed without sacrificing performance. The multiplexer out-
putis availableto the userin orderto perform additional
external signal processing before the signalis digitized.
Whenthe converterisnot digitizing signals,it canbe placed the Standby mode; typical power consumptionin this
modeis 250 μW.
