Multiplexed Comparator with 8-Bit Reference Divider
General Description
The ADC0852and ADC0854are CMOS devicesthat com-
binea versatile analog input multiplexer, voltage compara-
tor, andan 8-bit DAC which providesthe comparator’s
threshold voltage (VTH). The comparator providesa ‘‘1-bit’’
outputas aresultofa comparison between theanalog input
andthe DAC’s output. This allowsfor easy implementation set-point, on-offor ‘‘bang-bang’’ control systems with
several advantages over previous devices.
The ADC0854hasa4 input multiplexerthatcanbe software
configuredfor single ended, pseudo-differential,and full-dif-
ferential modesof operation.In additionthe DAC’s refer-
ence inputis broughtoutto allowfor reductionofthe span.
The ADC0852hasatwo input multiplexer thatcanbe con-
figuredas2 single-endedor1 differential input pair. The
DAC reference inputis internallytiedto VCC.
The multiplexerand 8-bit DACare programmedviaa serial
data input word. Once programmedthe outputis updated
once each clock cycleuptoa maximum clock rateof
400 kHz.
