Description and Introduction

PNP small signal general purpose amplifier & switch . The PN2904 is a widely used PNP bipolar junction transistor (BJT) designed for general-purpose amplification and switching applications. Known for its reliability and cost-effectiveness, this component is commonly employed in low-power circuits, signal processing, and driver stages.

With a collector current rating of up to 600 mA and a collector-emitter voltage (V_CEO) of 40 V, the PN2904 is suitable for a variety of electronic designs. Its complementary NPN counterpart, the PN2222, makes it a versatile choice for push-pull configurations and other paired transistor applications. The device features moderate gain (h_FE) and fast switching speeds, making it useful in both analog and digital circuits.

The PN2904 is housed in a TO-92 package, ensuring easy integration into breadboards and PCBs. Its robust construction and consistent performance have made it a staple in hobbyist projects, educational kits, and commercial electronics. Engineers and designers often favor this transistor for its simplicity, availability, and compatibility with common circuit requirements.

When using the PN2904, proper biasing and heat dissipation should be considered to ensure optimal performance. Datasheet specifications should always be consulted to confirm operating conditions and limitations.
