Description and Introduction

Clock/calendar with 240 x 8-bit RAM The PCF8583T is a versatile real-time clock (RTC) and calendar integrated circuit designed for low-power applications. Manufactured in a CMOS process, it combines an RTC, alarm functions, and a programmable timer in a compact package, making it ideal for embedded systems, consumer electronics, and industrial applications.

Featuring an I²C-bus interface, the PCF8583T ensures easy integration with microcontrollers and other digital systems. It operates with a wide supply voltage range (2.5V to 6V), enhancing its compatibility with various power sources. The device includes a 32.768 kHz oscillator, eliminating the need for external components in typical configurations.

Key functionalities include automatic leap-year correction, 24-hour or 12-hour time format support, and an alarm interrupt output. Additionally, its low standby current consumption (typically 50 µA) makes it suitable for battery-powered devices. The integrated 240-byte RAM provides extra storage for system data, further extending its utility.

With its robust design and reliable performance, the PCF8583T is a practical solution for applications requiring precise timekeeping and minimal power consumption. Its combination of features ensures efficient operation in space-constrained and energy-sensitive environments.
