Description and Introduction

Remote 8-bit I/O expander for I虏C鈥慴us with interrupt # Introduction to the PCF8574AT I/O Expander

The PCF8574AT is a versatile remote 8-bit I/O expander designed for I²C-bus applications. This CMOS-integrated circuit provides general-purpose input/output (GPIO) expansion, allowing microcontrollers with limited I/O pins to interface with additional peripherals efficiently.

Featuring an open-drain interrupt output, the PCF8574AT signals the host controller when an input state changes, reducing the need for continuous polling. Its bidirectional I/O ports can be configured independently, supporting both input and output operations with internal pull-up resistors.

With an operating voltage range of 2.5V to 6V, the PCF8574AT is suitable for low-power applications. Its I²C interface supports standard (100 kHz) and fast (400 kHz) modes, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of microcontrollers. The device also includes three hardware address pins, enabling up to eight units on the same bus.

Common applications include driving LEDs, reading switches, and interfacing with sensors. Its compact SO16 package makes it ideal for space-constrained designs. The PCF8574AT is a reliable solution for expanding I/O capabilities while maintaining simplicity and efficiency in embedded systems.
