The TDA8218isan horizontal and vertical deflec-
tion circuit with super sandcastle generator. Used
with automatic PAL/SECAM decoder TEA5640,
this IC permitsa complete low-cost solution for
PAL/SECAM applications.

The slice levelof sync-separationis fixedby valueof the external resistors R1 and R2. VRisan internally
fixed voltage.
The sync-pulse allows the dischargeof the capaci-
torbya2xI current.A line sync-pulseis not able discharge the capacitor under VZ/2.A frame
sync-pulse permits the complete dischargeof the
capacitor,so during the frame sync-pulse Q3 and providecurrentfor the other partsof the circuit.

The oscillator thresholds are internally fixed by
resistors. The dischargeof the capacitor depends the internal resistor R4. The control voltageis
appliedon resistor R5.
The sync-pulse drives the currentin the compara-
tor. The line flyback integratedby the external net
work giveson pin13a saw tooth, the DC offsetof
this saw toothis fixed by VC. The comparator
output providesa positive currentfor the partof the
signalon pin13 greater thanto VC anda negative
current forthe other part. When theline flyback and
the video signal are synchronized,the outputof the
comparatoris analternativelynegativeand positive
current. The frame sync-pulse inhibits the compa-
ratorto preventfrequency driftof the line oscillator the frame beginning.
