The NCP1215Aisa controller for low power off- -line flyback
Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) featuring low size, weight
and cost constraints together witha good low standby power
performance. The operating principle uses switching frequency
reductionat light loadby increasing the OFF Time. Also, when OFF
Time expands, the peak currentis gradually reduced downto
approximately 1/4of the maximum peak currentto prevent from
exciting the transformer mechanical resonances. The riskof acoustic
noiseis thus greatly diminished while keeping good standby power
performance. low power internal supply block also ensures very low current
consumptionat startup without hampering the standby power
performance. special primary current sensing technique minimizes the impact SMPS switching on controlIC operation. The choiceof peak
voltage across the current sense resistor allows dissipationtobe
further reduced. The negative current sensing technique offers
advantages overa traditional approachby avoiding the voltage drop
incurredby traditional MOSFET source sensing. Thus, theIC drive
capabilityis greatly improved.
Finally, the bulk input ripple ensuresa natural frequency dithering
which smooths the EMI signature.
