General Description

The LM2736 regulatorisa monolithic, high frequency, PWM
step-down DC/DC converterina 6-pin Thin SOT23 package. providesall the active functionsto provide local DC/DC
conversion with fast transient response and accurate regu-
lationin the smallest possible PCB area.
Witha minimumof external components and online design
support through WEBENCH®™,the LM2736is easyto use.
The abilityto drive 750mA loads withan internal 350mΩ
NMOS switch using state-of-the-art 0.5µm BiCMOS technol-
ogy resultsin the best power density available. The world
class control circuitry allowsfor on-timesas lowas 13ns,
thus supporting exceptionally high frequency conversion
overthe entire3Vto 18V input operating range downto the
minimum output voltageof 1.25V. Switching frequencyis
internally setto 550kHz (LM2736Y)or 1.6MHz (LM2736X),
allowingthe useof extremely small surface mount inductors
and chip capacitors. Even thoughthe operating frequencies
are very high, efficienciesupto 90% are easyto achieve.
External shutdownis included, featuring an ultra-low
stand-by currentof 30nA. The LM2736 utilizes current-mode
control and internal compensation to provide high-
performance regulation overa wide rangeof operating con-
ditions. Additional features include internal soft-start circuitry reduce inrush current, pulse-by-pulse current limit, ther-
mal shutdown, and output over-voltage protection.
