Adjustable Micropower Voltage References
General Description
The LM185/LM285/LM385are micropower 3-terminalad-
justable band-gap voltage reference diodes. Operating from
1.24to 5.3Vand overa10mAto20mA currentrange, they
feature exceptionallylow dynamic impedance and good
temperature stability. On-chip trimmingis usedto provide
tight voltage tolerance. Sincethe LM185 band-gap refer-
ence uses only transistors and resistors,low noise and
good long-term stability result.
Careful designofthe LM185has madethe device tolerant capacitive loading, makingit easytousein almostany
reference application. The wide dynamic operating range
allowsits use with widely varying supplies with excellent
regulation.
The extremely lowpower drainofthe LM185 makesit useful
formicropowercircuitry. This voltage referencecanbe used make portable meters, regulatorsor general purposean-
alog circuitrywith batterylife approaching shelflife. Further,
the wide operating current allowsitto replace older refer-
ences witha tighter tolerance part.
The LM185is ratedfor operation overa b55§Cto125§C
temperature range, whilethe LM285is rated b40§Cto85§C
andthe LM385 0§Cto70§C. The LM185is availableina
hermetic TO-46 packageanda leadless chip carrier pack-
age, whilethe LM285/LM385are availableina low-cost
TO-92 molded package,aswellas S.O.
