Self-Calibration
General Description

The LM12454, LM12458, and LM12H458are highly inte-
grated Data Acquisition Systems. Operatingonjust5V, they
combinea fully-differential self-calibrating (correcting linear-
ity and zero errors) 13-bit (12-bit+ sign) analog-to-digital
converter (ADC) and sample-and-hold (S/H) with extensive
analog functionsand digital functionality.Upto32 consecu-
tive conversions, using two’s complement format, canbe
storedinan internal 32-word (16-bit wide) FIFO data buffer. internal 8-word RAMcan storethe conversion sequence
forupto eight acquisitions throughthe LM12(H)458’s
eight-input multiplexer. The LM12454 hasa four-channel
multiplexer,a differential multiplexer output, anda differential
S/H input.The LM12454and LM12(H)458can also operate
with 8-bit+ sign resolutionandina supervisory “watchdog”
modethat comparesan input signal againsttwo program-
mable limits.
Programmable acquisition times and conversion ratesare
possible throughtheuseof internal clock-driven timers.The
reference voltage inputcanbe externally generatedforab-
soluteor ratiometric operationorcanbe derived using thein-
ternal 2.5V bandgap reference.
All registers, RAM, and FIFO are directly addressable
through thehighspeed microprocessor interfaceto eitheran
8-bitor 16-bit databus. The LM12454 and LM12(H)458in-
cludea direct memory access (DMA) interface for
high-speed conversion data transfer. evaluation/interface boardis available. Order num-
