TheHCC4538B(extended temperature range) and
HCF4538B
(intermediate temperature range) are
monolithic integrated circuit, availablein 16-lead
dual in-line plastic or-ceramic package and plastic
micropackage. TheHCC/HCF4538B dualprecision
monostable multivibrator provides stable retrigger-
able/resettable one-shot operation for any fixed-
voltage timing application. An external resistor (RX)
and anexternal capacitor (CX) control the timing and
accuracy for the circuit. Adjustmentof RX and CX
providesa wide rangeof output pulse widths from
theQ andQ terminals. The time delay from trigger
inputto output transition (trigger propagation delay)
and the time delay from reset inputto output transi-
tion(reset propagation delay)are independentofRX
and CX. Precision controlof output pulse widthsis
achieved through linear CMOS techniques. Lead-
ing-edg e-triggering (+TR) andtrailing-edge-trigger-
ing(– TR) inputs are provided for triggering from
either edgeofan input pulse. An unused+ TR input
shouldbe tiedto VSS.An unused– TR input should RETRIGGERABLE/RESETTABLE
CAPABILITY. TRIGGER AND RESET PROPAGATION DE-
LAYS INDEPENDENT OF RX,CX. TRIGGERING FROM LEADING OR TRAILING
EDGE.Q ANDQ BUFFERED OUTPUTS AVAILABLE. SEPARATE RESETS. WIDE RANGE OF OUTPUT-PULSE WIDTHS. QUIESCENT CURRENT SPECIFIED TO 20V
FOR HCC DEVICE. 5V, 10V, AND 15V PARAMETRIC RATINGS. SCHMITT TRIGGER INPUT ALLOWS UN-
LIMITER RISE AND FALL TIMES ON+ TR AND TR INPUTS. INPUT CURRENT OF 100nA AT 18V AND 25°C

(extends the output pulse one period)on the appli-
cationofeach new trigger pulse. For operationin the
non-retriggerable mode,Qis connectedto– TR
when leading-edge triggering(+ TR)is usedorQis
connectedto+ TR when trailingedge triggering(–
TR)is used. The time period(T)for this multivibrator
canbe calculatedby:T=RX CX. The min. valueof
external resistance, RX,is 4KΩ. The max. and min.
valuesof external capacitance, CX, are 100μF and
5nF, respectively.
